___ to Work Week, Part 2!
by Tony Chavira
Last year when I made a few snarky comments about the bicycling community in Los Angeles, the L.A. Weekly took me a little more seriously than I expected. So what if I think that Bike-to-Work week is a sham when the city has allocated so little development effort to accommodating for bikes? Is it not the truth?
I decided last time to slap up a few non-bicycle transit concepts, but this time I'd like to take this Bike-to-Work week as an opportunity to show you a few awesome potential new bicycles floating out there in the wide wide world of the internet. Personally, I think that it would be fantastic to see a diverse assortment of options and designs on the road, not just for cars and bikes, but for everything we could possibly use to get around. That said, let's get to it:

This thing is called a Di-cycle. Cool design, but not exactly a name that inspires confidence for daily use.

This Nulla bike is meant to be super minimalist, and has little gear edges inside the wheel instead of a chain. Pretty sleek, if you ask me (although you didn't).

I have no idea how comfortable this Versabike would be. Probably not very, but I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised.

I've mentioned this Locust Bike before, but I can't get it's wild design out of my head. Definitely an easy bike to take with you on the bus though.
And bikes don't have to be only high-designed element of bicycle culture in Los Angeles! The Design Blog has an awesome post on 10 Modular Bicycle Stands:

Then again, maybe the city/state/federal government doesn't want to invest in bicycling other than for just 1 week of the year. Maybe they want to keep spending money on road and highway improvements and maybe biking is, to their mind, dumb. Well, Mercedes Benz has something for you also, if that's really the case:

It's called the Hexawheel, although it reminds me of the Canyonero from The Simpsons...
