Bullets, Not Houses: More of Your Tax Dollars at Work

by Jim Washburn

The New York Times is reporting that one of the nine people killed by masked Israeli commandos when they attacked a flotilla of humanitarian aid ships was a 19-year-old United States citizen. A Turkish news agency is reporting that his body had one bullet in the chest and "four bullets fired into his head at close range."

Israel has rebuffed calls for an international investigation. Although only humanitarian aid items were found on the ships-Israel itself is now attempting to deliver the items to Gaza to help offset the international outcry over its acts--Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a televised speech said the flotilla participants were "supporters of terrorism" and that, "This was not a love boat. It was a boat of hate."

For another view, perhaps you'd be interested to hear what former US diplomat and retired US Army Col. Ann Wright and others who were on the flotilla ships have to say. Like some 600 others, she was taken prisoner at gunpoint by Israeli commandos.

Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, 21-year-old American college student and artist Emily Henochowicz was among the people protesting the flotilla attack. She lost her left eye and suffered facial fractures when an Israeli tear gas canister was fired into her face. Our tax dollars helped to pay for that tear gas canister, by the way, as well as the bullets fired into the "supporters of terrorism" on the flotilla ships.
