Cry, Baby

by Jim Washburn

Here’s a followup to the recent Lost in OC column I wrote regarding Orange County Supervisor John Moorlach’s successful effort to defund a Planned Parenthood program. It educated county teens and young women about reproductive health. Moorlach questioned whether the county should spend health-directed tobacco settlement money on protecting teens from STDs and unwanted pregnancies.

Moorlach evidently has no qualms about spending county taxpayer money to protect his own precious ass, however. At a March 10 Supervisors meeting, most of the public comment was in support of Planned Parenthood. Of the phone calls and emails Moorlach’s received since, he tells the Daily Pilot newspaper, “the vast majority were from people opposed to Planned Parenthood and I’ve gotten somewhat harsher responses from people who support Planned Parenthood. We may need to ask for more security from the tone of some of them.”

Bad tone? Call the State Board of Equalization!

We can empathize with Moorlach’s concern for his safety, given our country’s long experience with pro-abortion fanatics firebombing pro-life organizations, shooting doctors who refuse to perform abortions and blocking the entrances to maternity wards while waving “Abort, Damn You!” signs. They’re a rough bunch.

Just because the United States has the highest teen pregnancy rates of any Western democracy—with even higher percentages in California and OC—and just because unprotected sex can be a death sentence, that’s not threat enough to justify funding preventative education? Yet a few cranky phone calls to Moorlach’s office justifies armed guards? What a baby.

Comments

I’ve always liked Moorlach until just now.  I guess he’s realized that participating in the anti-abortion side show is a requirement for any politician from the right.  Or maybe his economic calculations indicate that the only way to pay off our current debts is to propagate lots more tax payers.
