Idiot Of The Week: Tom Daschle
by Nathan Walpow
I have a tax guy. His name is Herb, and he’s the person I’ve known longest in California. He started doing my taxes in early 1980 and he’s done them ever since. It’s pretty simple on my end. I collect all my tax documents during the year and in January I sort them all out and Andrea and I bring them in and we spend an hour or so chatting and plugging in numbers and that’s that. It’s not hard. Herb always finds deductions that save me more than he charges. It’s a win-win-win. Good for Herb, good for me, good for the government.
So why in blazes is it so hard for all these Obama appointees to get their taxes straight? Don’t they have tax people? Do they come home from long days in the Senate or wherever and sit down with TurboTax and forget stuff because they don’t have a Herb to remind them?
I’m picking Tom Daschle for Idiot Of The Week because he was in the Senate and he ran for president and he should know about visibility and he should know more better than the others.
And I’m giving an honorable mention to whoever on Obama’s staff did the crappy vetting.
