PeePoople

by Donna Schoenkopf

I realize I am pretty weird about throwing things away. But our world is drowning in waste of every kind...styrofoam, plastic water bottles, and poo. Yes, poo.

I heard of an interesting solution to this problem years ago. I THINK it was Singapore, but I may be mistaken. Singapore (maybe) collects night soil. Night soil?

Night soil is excrement that is collected the old-fashioned way. Then it is put on the doorstep in covered jars to be collected the next morning, much like glass milk bottles used to be collected. It is then treated and used to make fertilizer.

But an even more interesting idea has blossomed. The Peepoo Bag. It can be manufactured cheaply (1 or 2 cents a piece). It can be used anywhere, especially in areas that have problems with bad or no sewage systems. It is really clever. But see for yourself!
