Sean Penn and a Cast of Thousands in Haiti

by Jim Washburn

Unlike folks who've used the Haitian earthquake rubble as a photo op, Sean Penn has been there for six months, managing a tent city of 55,000 displaced persons while living in a tent there himself.

Got some questions about Haiti, such as why, after all the billions in aid promised, hospitals there are closing up for want of funds and supplies? Penn has some answers in this lengthy interview with Democracy Now's Amy Goodman, along with discussing why he turned to Venezuela's Hugo Chavez for help when he needed medical supplies, and why he thinks the US military has been the source of some of the most direct and decisive help following the earthquake.
