Unintended Consequences

by Donna Schoenkopf

I have been thinking about unintended consequences lately and when Nephew Alex sent me a youtube video on that VERY subject, I had to show it to everyone.  It's the story of Thomas Midgley, Jr., a man who only wanted to make the world a better place.  Alas, this was not to be the case.

Our first video is a very interesting chronology of his life and his incredible inventions.

But to put a light-hearted touch on the heavy information you've just gotten, try this video, which made me laugh in spite of myself.

So, thanks, Alex, for yet another very weird and wonderful bit of information that I never knew about.  FINALLY, a face and name to put to some of the worst disasters our planet has ever endured.  And he was a nice guy.  Really.
