Yippee! 1A and R Pass

by Nathan Walpow

Buried in the excitement of the results of yesterday's election, we find evidence of voter support for transport needs:

State proposition 1A, for a high-speed rail line along the California coast, passed. A good thing? Maybe. See Tony Chavira's article and decide what you think. Comment below. Start a conversation or something.

Los Angeles County measure R passed too. This one I'm more excited about. Gary Phillips, maybe not so much. What impresses me is that, in this miserable economic climate, R managed to garner (barely) the two-thirds yes vote it needed. That might be due to the ballot wording, which I noticed yesterday doesn't make it as obvious as it might have been that it represented a tax increase.

It might be a while until any of the R projects happen, according to this piece by Steve Hymon at the Times.

Seriously.  Let’s hope that we can pull it all together on time and on budget.

At the very least, we’ve got a lot of optimism on our side…  Future cities, here we come!
